About the Course:
The course is designed for people who are interested in care work. This covers working with people with learning disabilities, mental health illnesses and the elderly. It meets the needs of employers who are required to ensure that all new staff complete specific induction and foundation standards within the first six months of employment in care work.

  • Caring for people with dementia
  • Safeguarding children
  • Basic life support

Progression: 
Candidate on completion moves to undertake Diploma Level 2 (NVQ 2).

Course Title:
Health & Social Care Diploma Level 2 (NVQ 2)

About the Course:
The course is designed for support workers or health care assistants working in a variety of social and healthcare settings including hospitals, care homes and patients’ homes.


Duration: 
3 months or 6 months

Course Structure:
The course consists of the following:

  • Health & safety practice
  • Demonstrating effective communication
  • Continuous professional development
  • Safeguarding of vulnerable adults

Assessment Method:
Assessment is conducted through trainer/assessor training and direct observation of your skills at work plus student portfolio production.


Progression Route
Learners can improve their skills at work and enrol on to the Diploma Level 3 (NVQ 3) course in Health and Social Care.

Course Title:
Health & Social Care Diploma Level 3 (NVQ 3)

 

About the Course
The course is designed for people already demonstrating the skills and responsibilities of senior care workers or supervisors in a social or health care setting.

Duration:
 
6 months or 9 months

Start Date:
Ongoing enrolment

Course Structure:
This course includes between 8 and 11 units designed to match your work practice, some of which include:

  • Contributing to the care planning process
  • Contributing to the development of team members
  • Supervising health and safety
  • Working with clients to develop suitable therapeutic and developmental activities
  • Assisting with clinical activities


Assessment Method:
Course assessment is conducted through trainer/assessor training and direct observation of your skills at work plus student portfolio production.


Progression:
This course could help you improve your skills at work, or you could register for a Diploma Level 4 (NVQ 4) in Health and Social Care Management.  Following course completion learners could also opt to become accredited Diploma (NVQ) assessors or apply to a university or a Higher Education institution in order to complete a Degree or Diploma in Nursing or Social work.


Course Title:
Health & Social Care Diploma Level 4 (NVQ 4)

About the Course:
This course is designed for people already demonstrating the role and responsibilities of a deputy manager/manager in a care setting.

Duration:
 
8  – 10 months

Course Structure:
The course includes over 8 units designed to match your work practice and suit your needs, some of which include:

  • Managing health and safety
  • Managing/developing teams and individuals
  • Managing provision of a quality service
  • Managing resources
  • Developing working relationships with other services


Assessment Method:
Course assessment is conducted through trainer/assessor training and direct observation of your skills at work plus student portfolio production.

Progression:
At the end of the course learners will have improved skills at work.  Learners may opt to become accredited Diploma (NVQ) assessors or apply to a university or a Higher Education institution in order to complete a Degree or Diploma in Nursing or Social work.

Course Title:
A1 Assessors Award – Level 3

3 months

Entry Requirements:

  • Diploma (NVQ) Level 3 in Health and Social Care or be a registered Nurse or Social Worker
  • Evidence of a current CRB Check 

Evidence of qualification(s) must be provided

About the Course:
The A1 Assessors Award is a nationally recognised assessment qualification. The qualification is a prerequisite for anyone wishing to work in an educational setting.


The A1 Assessors Award in Health and Social Care has replaced the D32 Award.  The course will enable students to assess candidates using a variety of different assessment methods. These include dealing with diverse evidence such as witness testimony, knowledge questions and work products.  Students will learn to use the systems that are required to record observations and assess the evidence to ensure Diploma (NVQ) candidates are competent in the units required for their award.

Course Structure:
The course is comprised of 1 Unit with 4 Elements including:

  • Planning assessments and giving feedback
  • Responsibilities of an assessor
  • Assessment
  • Portfolio production and direct observation of your practice

Progression:
At the end of the course learners could take up employment as Diploma (NVQ) Assessors.

Course Title:
Leadership and Management for Care Services Diploma
Level 5 (NVQ 5)

 

About the Course:
This course is designed for people already demonstrating the role and responsibilities of a manager in a care setting.

Duration:
 
8 - 12 months 

Start Date:

Course Structure:
The course comprises 10 units, some of which include:

  • Managing activities
  • Managing people and other resources
  • Managing information
  • Managing quality


Assessment Method:
Course assessment is conducted through trainer/assessor training and direct observation of your skills at work plus student portfolio production.



Entry Requirements:
Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Working full-time as a manager in a care setting*
  • Evidence of a current CRB Check
  • Completion of a Literacy and Numeracy exam

 *must be confirmed in a letter from the applicant’s employer(s).

Progression:
At the end of the course learners will have improved skills at work.  Others could opt to become accredited Diploma (NVQ) Assessors or apply to a university or a Higher Education institution in order to complete a Degree or Diploma in Management.



Course Title:
Internal Verifier Award, V1 Unit - Level 4


Duration: 
12 months

About the Course:
This award covers the internal quality assurance system for assessment decisions.


Course Structure:

The unit involves monitoring the assessor’s decisions and providing the support that they need such as sampling process and standardisation arrangements.


Entry requirements:

  • A minimum of one year experience as an Assessor
  • Diploma (NVQ) Level 3 Qualification
  • Assessor Units D32 and D33
  • Trainer - Assessor Award, A1-Unit

Applicants will also have met one of the following conditions;

  • Have an English language qualification – or very good English speaking and writing ability
  • Hold a relevant qualification recognised in the UK or overseas.
  • Hold a senior position in their current work place

 

Progression:
Successful completion of this course will enable you to apply to Awarding Bodies to become an External Verifier.
